BROWNSVILLE ROTARY CLUB - LITERACY
PROGRAMS
Maria Fetock, Literacy Chair
Kindergarten through third grade
students and their parents and sibling
gather together at the
Brownsville Free
Public Library on the
second Saturday of
each month to
participate in Turn
the Pages of Your
Imagination … Read
– a literacy program
sponsored by
Brownsville Rotary and Brownsville Area
High School Interact.
The monthly literacy program themes
have included: Reading Around
Town…Bringing Books to Life, Reading
Around the World, Reading About
Nature and most recently, Turn the
Pages of Your Imagination…Read.
During the summer months, the literacy
program is held in conjunction with the
Dear GSE Alumni,
“Music on the Mon” concert series held
at Nemacolin Castle in Brownsville.
“Music and Reading
on the Mon” begins in
June with its first
show, The Big
Bedtime Story and
Concert, geared
entirely to children
ages 8 and under.
For the past two
years, special guest
reader, Cinderella, has enchanted the
children with her fairytale of a wicked
stepmother and a charming prince.
All children receive “Rotary Family
Read-Together Bags” and, of course,
milk and cookies. The Brownsville Area
Revitalization Corporation, Tri-County
Federation of Musicians, Pennsylvania
Partners in the Arts and Westmoreland
Community College co-sponsors the
event with Brownsville Rotary.
Brownsville Rotary Club is very proud of
its literacy program and hopes, through
its efforts, to instill a lifelong love of
reading to all participants.
