Inbound Exchange Students
Rotary Year 2008-2009
Below you will find the first two of 10 students that have been assigned to our district.
Please take some time to read their profiles and let me know if you would like to put
your club’s name in to receive one of them. Kyoko is from Japan and Jonathan is from
Denmark. In addition to these students, we are expecting to get one student each from
Germany, Spain, Belgium, Poland, Croatia, Peru, India and Argentina.
Kyoko Nishio is from Fukui City in Japan and is 17 years old. She
has an older brother aged 18 and a younger sister aged 13. The
brother is currently studying in the US.
Kyoko enjoys playing and listening to music. She plays the bass in
a band. Kyoko also enjoys exercising and playing softball. Her
positions are Center Field, Catcher and 1st Base. In 2005 she
visited the US with her family. During her year as a Youth
Exchange Student she plans to study English very hard in order to
major in English when she goes on to College.
Kyoko describes herself as Friendly, honest and optimistic. She does mention that, at
times, she tends to talk too much.
Placement suggestion from District Chair: Any Rotary Club
Jonathan Rebien Olsen is from Holte in Denmark and is 16 years
old. Holte is a municipality just north of Copenhagen; the Capital of
Denmark. He has a younger sister aged 13 whom he often helps
with home work.
Jonathan enjoys ice skating and “LOVES” downhill skiing. He also
plays soccer at school. Jonathan often helps his mother prepare
dinner and works 10 hours per week at a local grocery store.
With his family, Jonathan has traveled to the US and has already
visited DC, New York and Pennsylvania.
Jonathan describes himself as helpful, energetic and determined.
Placement suggestion from District Chair: Preferably with a Rotary Club where
the school has an active Ski Club.
