E-mail scam targets Rotarians
Rotary International News – 16 January 2008
Rotarians should be aware of a new scam e-mail claiming that the
recipient is a winner of a cash grant. The e-mail claims the recipient’s
name was randomly chosen from a database, and the recipient did not
enter a contest. The recipient is then asked to contact a fake RI staff
member to provide information and claim the grant. The scam e-mail has been sent
from numerous e-mail addresses, and the recipient is asked to contact staff in locations
outside of the United States.
Rotary International does not solicit funds through e-mail, nor does it ask that personal
information be updated by e-mail or other electronic means. RI encourages Rotarians
and Rotary clubs to avoid becoming victims of such scams by deleting any e-mail that
appears suspicious.
District Conference
Each and every Rotarian in the District will
be receiving a Flyer about the Conference
and all the events very soon.
I would urge all those planning to attend to
call Mountaineer to reserve their rooms. We
have negotiated a special price of $99/night
- you must let them know you are with
Rotary District 7330. However, be aware
with Mountaineer being a full-fledged casino,
rooms sell out fast.
Mountaineer's direct number is 1-800-489-
8192.
I hope to see all of you
