OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE FOR ALL ROTARY CLUBS IN DISTRICT 7330
Help Burned Low Income Children in South America Get Free Medical Care by Donating
Funds to a District-Wide International Project
A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN AN INTERNATIONAL PROJECT
The McMurray Rotary Club is spearheading a drive amongst clubs in District 7330 to
raise funds for a Matching Grant for a one-time International Project sponsored by a
Rotary Club in Chile. The project is to benefit COANIQUEM, a not for profit foundation
in Chile that provides free medical care to children of low income families, who have
suffered burns, including room and board for the child and one parent when necessary.
COANIQUEM was created in Santiago, Chile 28 years ago by a Chilean Rotarian,
initially for low-income children in Chile. As the foundation grew, through private
donations and grants, satellite units were created and continue to be created in other
areas of Chile either in partnership with hospitals or as free standing units so children
and their families would not have to travel great distances away from their home while
the child undergoes treatment for his/her burns. The Foundation has expanded also to
provide free care to children from throughout South America.
The Rotary Club of San Antonio, Chile is asking for assistance to apply for a
$15,570.00Matching Grant to acquire the necessary surgical instruments for a Special
Care Room for Burned Children in a local hospital to improve the attention of burned
children in the area and to decrease the amount of patients that need to be sent to other
centers, farther away, to receive the necessary surgeries in the acute stage of deep
burn wounds. This would prevent delays in the patient’s treatment and will enable local
parents to accompany their children while undergoing treatment, lowering transfer
costs, and considering that the families involved are of very low income.
The District has committed $5,535.00 in DDF to the project which would be matched
100% by TRF. However, these funds will be available only if we, the clubs in District
7330, can raise$5,535.00. These funds would be donated to TRF Annual Fund with
each club receiving TRF credit for the amount contributed. The McMurray Rotary Club
has already committed to donate $2,000.00 to the project. We need an additional
$3,535.00 to be raised amongst some or all of the remaining clubs.
A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR CLUB TO CONTRIBUTE TO A
