Washington Club Enjoys fellowship and
Learning
Continuing a custom which was
inaugurated several years ago,
members of the Washington Club
gathered after work on a Wednesday in
February for a “Fireside Chat,” an
informal session devoted fellowship and
Rotary education.
Thirty one members, over a third of the
membership, representing all levels of
Rotary experience, participated in the
event. While consuming heavy hors
d’oeuvres and beverages, the members
listened to brief presentations about
Club activities and Rotary information.
Ample time for questions was provided.
A copy of The ABCs of Rotary by PRIP
Cliff Dochterman was given to each
participant.
The event was conducted at The
George Washington in front of, of all
things, a huge fireplace. PDG Tom
Drewitz, one of the moderators, said
that everyone should act as though they
were in their own living room. The
congenial setting and relaxed
atmosphere contributed to what the
participants agreed was a successful
event.
The Chat was organized by John A.
Rodgers. Key participants, in addition to
PDG Drewitz, were PDG Andy Uram,
the dean of the Club’s former
Governors, PDG Lee Brown, Club
President “Tripp” Kline, President-Elect
Bill Price and Vice President Sue Priest.
A Power Point presentation featuring RI,
Rotary Foundation and Club history and
information was again utilized.
Customized by Gordon M. Core utilizing
a template which is available from RI,
the presentation is an excellent
education and public relations tool.
Several photo displays of Club service
projects and other activities were
prepared by Bill and Susan Price.
The Fireside Chat is one component of
the Club’s ongoing efforts to promote
the Rotary education of its members.
Others include a monthly Club
Assembly, the weekly bulletin, The
Washingtonian, and a weekly
publication known as Rotary Revealed.
The next Chat will be conducted in four
to six months.
The leaders of any club which is
interested in conducting such a program
should not hesitate to contact John
