The Foundation Moment
PDG Colleen Wood
A Rotary Foundation matching grant between District 5470 in Colorado and District
3150 in India will help to break the cycle of poverty for some families in India. This grant
will provide milk cows and sewing machines so that local women can establish
businesses. Prior to this their families were existing on $2.00 a day but now the women
can expect to earn an additional $50.00 a month. This
will insure that their families will have enough to eat.
Every minute of every day someone’s life is being
improved by our Rotary Foundation. Wells are being dug
in India, blind children are using Braille typewriters in
Brazil, toilets are part of improved sanitation in Sri Lanka, and dental treatment is
available to the needy in Nicaragua. In a world where the divide between the haves and
the have-nots is growing, we as Rotarians must do our part and “do good in the world.”
The Rotary Club of Latrobe is looking for support for an international service project in
Brazil. The matching grant is for water conservation and reclamation in Campinas,
Brazil. The project is a joint effort between Rotary and non government ecologists to
teach children with “hands-on” experience about the problems of river deforestation,
pollution and trashing. If your club would like to help call Harry Albert Project Chair or
George Wood for more information.
