Rotary International
Tentative World Wide Zone Re-alignment
JULY 1, 2011
Between Jan 14-18, 2008, members of the Rotary International Board of Directors,
Immediate Past Directors and Directors Elect, representing the 34 Zones to the Zone
Boundary Realignment committee, met in San Diego to propose the realignment of the
Zone boundaries. Consideration was given to the Council On Legislation Resolution
requesting that one District belong to only one Zone. The report was presented to the
Rotary International Board of Directors the following week and tentatively adopted.
The basis for the realignment was to give an even representation of Rotarians by Zone
both for the election of Directors serving on the RI Board and for selecting members
of the Nominating Committee for President. It was determined that areas in the
Americas would give up two Zones. One Zone would be added in India/Korea and one
Zone added in Eastern Europe/ Africa. This would equalize Zone membership without
increasing the number of Directors,
THIS REALIGNMENT WOULD TAKE EFFECT ON JULY 1, 2011.
All Rotary Districts will belong to only one Rotary Zone.
The effects of this realignment on Rotary Zones 27 & 28 are as follows.
Old Zone 27 remains very much the same with the addition of Rotary District 5580
(North Dakota & W. Minnesota). This Zone will be renamed Zone 28.
Old Zone 28 changes are as follows.
Three current Zone 28 Districts will join other new Zones.
Rotary Districts 6330 (E. Michigan) & 7090 (W. New York) will join "old" Zone 22, which
will renamed Zone 24.
Rotary District 6540 (N. Indiana) will join with the two other Indiana Districts in new
Zone 31.
Six Rotary Districts will be added to old Zone 28 which then will be renamed Zone 29.
These include: District 7120 (E. New York), District 7150 (Central New York), District
7170 (S. New York), District 7190 (Central New York), District 7350, (E. Pennsylvania
& W. West Virginia) and District 7370 (Maryland)
Rotary Clubs and Districts are invited to comment on the plan to Director Mike Johns
at mijandnij@aol.com and PRID Frank Goldberg at frankandleanne@cox.net.
The Zone Realignment Plan will take place until after the RI Board adopts the final
version of the plan at the June 2008 meeting.
After final adoption, many transition strategies will be discussed and implemented in
a timely manner by the Rotary International Board over the next two years.
Again, Zones 27 and 28 remain the same until July 1, 2011!
