The Foundation Moment

1. Since 2005, the Rotarians in our District
have been purchasing Water Sand
Filters for $60.00 a piece. This year our
District has hit a record three year high
with Rotarians donating over $25, 00.00
for the filters. The District will match that
money enabling the purchase of 840
filters. The lack of clean drinking water is a major problem in our world and each
day thousands of children die from drinking polluted water. Because of the
generosity of our Rotarians, 840 families in Central America will now have clean
water to drink.
2. In 1985 Rotary made a promise to the children of the world to eradicate polio. In
2008 because of the efforts of Rotary and its partners the world is almost polio
free – only parts of four countries to go. These last four countries are extremely
important in eradicating polio. If you have never made a direct donation to the
polio campaign then please consider it; if you have contributed in the past your
help is still needed. As one polio volunteer said, “ To think of a child who was
healthy and running and six hours later wakes up with a high fever and can‟t
move his legs…this is devastating.” Please help Rotary keep its promise to the
children of the world.
3. Through a Rotary Foundation Grant, villagers in Aramasi, Bolivia are now
growing enough produce to feed 70 families. This matching grant funded water
resources for fruit and vegetable gardens and trained farmers to maintain the
gardens and enrich their families‟ diets. For decades this village had suffered
from severe malnutrition and high infant and child death rates.
4. When you make a contribution to the Rotary Foundation you can be confident
that 50 per cent of your contribution will come back to this district for local
projects in our communities. The other portion of your contribution benefits the
World Fund and supports Rotary‟s commitment to international service. The
three year investment cycle of Foundation contributions ensures that 100 percent
of your gift is spent on Rotary programs and grants.
